Can I give my nursing cat, catnip??

I rescued a cat who soon after gave birth. Her kittens are 2-1/2 wks and she is acting like she is in HEAT. Can I give her catnip to help calm her, also, she is driving my neutered male CRAZY. ( Yes, I will have her spayed when she is done nursing)
I would not do it. Catnip makes them hyper, not calm them down. And nothing you can give to calm a "in heat" cat. Its very possible she is back in heat and the sooner you get her spayed, the better.

Biggest problem (well 2 of them) - one, she could get outside and get pregnant even if nursing the kittens and two, there's a possibility of her neglecting nursing those kittens right now - which is a serious problem. If she is not nursing them , then you will need to bottle feed them for about 3 weeks. Be sure mom is kept inside no matter what!
I gave the mama Cat some catnip also kittens. They acted like complete nuts for about an hour so I'm not sure it'll calm her down. Can you keep the male away for now, until she's done nursing and spayed?
this is a pun sir!
