What do i need for a cat?

  Well, i might be getting a cat soon, but its so far undecided. Right now im just trying to figure out what i would need because pretty much i have absolutly nothing for a cat ... I've had cats before but we dont have any supplies or anything left.

So some of my questions are:

-Whats the cheapest, but best food for your cat?

-What kinds of supplies do i need? (Basics)

-How much food (wet) should i start off with?

-Whats cheaper/better:

* Purina tidy cats 27lb: 11.99

* Fresh step 20 lb: 5.99

Is it better to (adopt) a kitten or an older cat, introducing to your house wise? Like, is it easier to get a young cat or kitten, or adult cat?

Just, tell me some basics and what i need to get or to know.

OH, and if i got a pair, should it be 2 boys, 2 girls, or 1 boy and 1 girl?

THANKS: D
My first question is this: what happened to your previous cats? If you had to give them away, will you have to do so again?

You're going to get a lot of different answers. I feed my cat the expensive stuff, but my parents fed our outdoor cats Meow Mix and they lived to be 17 years old. For a grocery store brand, maybe Purina One. For a Petsmart brand, maybe consider their own brand, Authority.

I recommend dry food instead of wet food. It's cheaper and will help keep the cat's teeth in good shape.

Supplies:

litter and box, scooper

food and food bowl

water bowl

brush

a bed for the cat (optional)

scratching post

Litter:

Tidy Cats for sure. We've tried ALL of the cheaper brands and always go back to Tidy Cats.

Cat vs. Kitten and adopting one or more:

Totally up to you. You can have good and bad experiences with both. Kittens often get adopted faster because they are cute, but grow quickly into cats. Here are some links:

A few things that you might need are food, food bowl, water bowl, one more litter box than the number of cats you have. Cats like high places so maybe a comfortable place up high like on top of a book shelf. For cat litter you need one box with clumping and another with nonclumping (one for pee and one for poop.) I think it is better to adopt an older cat.
