is it the same as dogs? (5-6 months)?
depends what matters to you most. It can stunt the cats growth to not fully get the hormones it needs. wait til after its heat if you want it to be a nice fully matured cat unless other cats are an issue then 8 months.
I have had all my females spayed in the 16-18 week time period. While it has happened that kittens have gone into heat in their third month, it is not common. I just prefer to play it safe, as a cat in heat is a very miserable kitty, and makes it miserable for all around her.
There are some vets who want to wait until six months, but if that were my vet, either the vet does it sooner, or I find a different vet.
Some vets are skilled at doing the operation on very young kittens, and for males, neutering can be done as soon as 8 weeks/2 pounds. But the operation is more for spaying, so you want your kitten to put on a bit more weight .
Most vets will recommend that you wait until your cat goes into heat for the first time, which is usually around 6 months of age or so. Once she's gone into heat, they will not do the procedure until AFTER it is finished . That is the sign that she is old enough.
Yes. You want to spay your female before she goes into heat for the first time. As early as your vet will do it.
the younger the better. before 12 weeks
