He was an outdoor cat then we moved and tried to make him and indoor cat but every week or so he gets really weird and I mean weird so he does his best to get out and has done so three times before this. The first time he was gone for a day and we caught him in the yard and the second he was gone for like three days and we caught him in the yard again but the last time he was gone for four days and just came back on his own up to the porch while we were sitting there. He has been gone for a week now and we leave food out for him and something sure is eating it but I'm afraid something has happened to him or when he comes home he doesn't stay because we aren't outside like he has no way in so he leaves. It's getting cold and snowy so it worries me even more because shouldn't he want to come home to get out of the cold? What should we do?
I 'd find a place to put a covered box with a doorway and pet bed, or old blanket, in it. This will give the cat a place to be where it can be warm, and near you. place the food and water dish nearby , and hope for the best. One never knows what to expect, and the only way to be sure whats eating the food is a security camera on the area, with tapes to review.
Has he be neutered? If not, this is normal behavior. He could stay gone for a couple of weeks at a time, having been attracted by a female. If you want him to be an indoor cat, your best bet is to have him neutered when he comes home. This will make him less likely to wander and more content on being indoors.
If he is an older cat, he may have gone off to die. Often animals like cats will go off by themselves to die alone some where. It is just how life works. Check around the outside of the house and under things he/she might be there. Otherwise I'd place up posters and call your local shelters. He might have been snatched up.
Don't let him go out keep him very happy when he comes back.
call all the vets in the area and describe your cat. maybe someone took him. call the shelters and anti cruelty. they could've taken him by accident.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com get a trained bloodhound if you can and let him sniff something the cat touched. there are people out there who use dogs like that to find missing pets but i dont know where.
my cat ran away for two and a half months and came back and my sister's cat came back after half a year and a texi driver told me his cat came back after two weeks.
good luck. keep my fingers crossed for you.
Borrow a humane live trap from your local animal shelter/control officer and set it up with wet food inside to entice your kitty into it. Also, when he returns, have him neutered . He will be happier and will not want to run off. Also, ask your neighbors if they've seen him, place a lost ad and fliers, check local shelters, and check local flea markets that sell pets. It wouldn't be a bad idea to set out a comfy bedding area/box filled with hay or wood chips for him to sleep in. Don't use blankets, as they will freeze in the snow.
