My cat has an open abscess from a bite?

I have dealt with this many times over the years, she is feeling fine now that it burst, I'm applying peroxide several times daily, and there is no sign of infection-no smell, fever, pus, - but-my other cat is licking the wound. Is this ok?
Now that the abscess has opened up and you've cleaned it really well ......." not infected "...... don't continue to use peroxide on it. You can wash it with a cloth and warm water, then put Neosporin Anti-bacterial Ointment on it. This will help it to heal, and continued use of peroxide only kills the cells that are TRYING to heal ... ....

If you feel that water alone isn't enough, you can get some Witch Hazel (drug store) and use that for cleaning. It's an astringent, and is better for cleaning than peroxide. It's safe for cats, and can also be used for cleaning "blackheads" from a cat's chin ....... if they've been drinking from plastic bowls and have gotten this black "stuff" on their chin, or are losing patches of fur ...... Witch Hazel will help it heal ........ Just clean with the Witch Hazel, then apply the Neosporin .... She should be fine in no time ...... pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Hope this helps ......... Good luck ........
I'm not aware that peroxide is safe to use on cats.

I would visit a vet and you may find that your cat is given a lampshade to wear to prevent her from licking her wounds and soars. The vet may also suggest you boil a teaspoon of salt in water and bathe the affected area three or four times daily until clean.

I think your other cat is aware something is wrong but should be distracted from this washing. I would be inclined to isolate the two cats until the site of the abscess was completely dried out.
It needs a vet. My cat got a cat bite on her back. I waited 5 days to take her to the vet, by the time she got treatment, it was too infected to just lance and clean. She had to get surgery and a tube put through her back. That was a lot harder on her than a simple cleaning would of been. The total cost was $ 400.00.

She too was a stray just a year prior to the attack, so that is not an excuse. Animals know when you are trying to help them anyways. Vets also are aware and know how to handle stray cats.

Cat bites are nasty and become infected 99% of the time. If a vet or vet technician gets bit by a cat, did you know they have to leave RIGHT AWAY to the hospital to get it cleaned? I use to work at a vet and a technician there had been bitten many times over her 20 years working there.

Peroxide is not to be used on animals. It is usually only used to clean area (dried blood) after surgery. It is not put on the cut/stitches for treatment, strictly cleaning.
I think it will be ok if none of the symptoms are present you listed. My cat had an abscess on his leg from a bite. He licked it till all the hair was gone keeping it clean. It healed well. I would just watch carefully for signs of infection.
Cats mouths are really really dirty so I would get him to the vet an abscess is an infection and can be really serious take him in.
i got a medicine for my cat from the vet

so i would try to get some medicine for your cat
