My cats are on antibiotics and my vet suggested adding a little canned pumpkin to their food to help regulate their systems. I am wondering whether most cats actually enjoy the stuff, or if I'm probably going to need to disguise it somehow?
Most will lick it right off the spoon. Of course, you want mashed pumpkin, and none with spices.
Pumpkin is good for diarrhea or constipation. Your vet is probably referring to the fact that cats can get diarrhea from antibiotic treatments, since it kills the beneficial bacteria in the gut.
But most actually will give their cat some yogurt with active cultures, to reestablish the flora of the gut. And even if your cat is lactose intolerant, the amount is too little to cause a problem in that area.
I am currently doing the same thing, that was what my vet told me to do for 1 week, 1tsp a day and when the symptoms disappear, try to do it once a week for maintenance. I have been doing the maintenance by mixing it with wet food, preferable tuna or salmon w/gravy to masks the taste and smell. The smellier the food the better. My cat eats it all up when I mixed but if its just plain pumpkin, she will not eat it.
Some cats do, while others don't. However, you can purchase some cat food with pumpkin in it. Pumpkin is great for cats with diarrhea. I purchased cans with flakes of chicken and pumpkin it it, and my cat loved it! Check your pet store to see if they carry any with pumpkin in it.
You'd be surprised what some cats will like. I have one who loves tomatoes, broccoli, and cucumbers.

I've only had one cat not like the pumpkin. I put a little smear on her paw and she would lick it off as part of her grooming routine.
My cats do not like it. But some have had success " hiding "it in their food and it really does help the cats.
good luck!
