Hi i just had a quick question We adopted 2 kitties yesterday (i posted earlier because i thought they was lost but in fact they was only hiding in the closet lol) The shelter called and told me that the female may be pregnant (They was looking at the paper work of the babies) The lady told me that she was unsure if she was pregnant so she has not been spayed yet. The person who dropped them off had stated that the female had been bred but she was unsure if she was pregnant because her male cat kept going to her. My question is. If she was pregnant would the male still try to mount her? Or is it safe to go ahead and get her spayed?
Vets generally use an x-ray to diagnose pregnancy in cats - it's significantly cheaper than an ultrasound and not all vets have ultrasound equipment.
A kitten can certainly become pregnant during their first heat cycle, which is pretty common at 5-6 months old. Males will mount females multiple times - the fact that they continue to mount her only ensures more kittens (cats are induced ovulators, each mating will fertilize more eggs). Do you realize that this pregnancy puts your kitten at real risk? A kitten that age is likely to require a vet-assisted delivery. My local emergency vet charges $ 2500 for this procedure - do you have that in the bank ready to pay if it comes to that? They are small, and kittens can get stuck in the birth canal. Young cats can also take one look at their litter, decide that motherhood isn't for them, and then leave * you * to hand feed the entire litter, round the clock every two hours, for several weeks. Are you prepared to do that? And then there is the issue of the kittens, if they survive - they will need vaccines and wormings then to be spayed and neutered - and homes found for them. She may have 5 or 6, especially if she's been mated multiple times.

It's easy to live in the nice world of not believing in spaying a pregnant cat, but each kitten you allow to be born means that one will die in the shelter. There are over 4 million cats and kittens killed each year due to all of the kittens being born, with no homes available. They are already born, breathing, and cute as can be, yet they are injected with a lethal dose of chemical, and die by the thousands. I say rather spay a pregnant cat than contribute to the killing of the already born.
Call the vet, get her spayed. It will be safer and healthier for her in the long run. Her body should be fueling her own growth, not the growth of kittens. It's like a 12 year old human getting pregnant and giving birth.
Yes, the male would still attempt to get at her. And they could still do the spay but if she is pregnant, they will have to abort the kittens. A vet can do ultrasounds and such to find out. Yes, pregnancy is definitely possible. Cats can go into heat anywhere from 12 weeks old.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I would recommend taking her to the vet to find out if she is pregnant before you schedule a spaying.
You're right not to have to kitten killed. It's wrong to kill the poor kitten. I waited for a week for an ultrasound with my cat because the guy who gave it didnt work in the clinic and showed up just for me.
the male would try to have fun whether she's pregnant or not. that's how stray cats have kittens from more than just one father, because even though she's pregnant the other males aren't put off by it. maybe the vet can tell if she's pregnant without an ultrasound by just touching her stomach. don't you try to do it because you might kill the kitten, the vet knows how to do this safely. so please try not to touch her stomach.
you're a good mother to those cats.
Definetly get them spayed and neutered. Your vet can tell you beforehand if the cat is pregnant.
You can have the cat spayed now. This will also remove the fetuses, of course. Do not waste money on an ultrasound. My opinion only ...............
