Are my kittens playing or fighting?

I got an 8 week old kitten, my 6 month old kitten likes to pounce on her when he can. I thought they were playing at first, but then I became less sure. My 6 month old might be trying to prove he's the alpha cat to the new one, which is normal in the feline world. I just worry my new kitten will get scared, not feel that relaxed and comfortable. Also, ofcourse the 6 month old is twice as big as the 8 week old so I worry about the new one's safety if it gets out of hand. The 8 week old does hiss sometimes when they're playing/fighting but I've read that can be a part of play fighting too and not serious.

I've taken a video so you can see what I'm talking about, as an example. Please let me know what you think, especially if you have had cats in similar situations.

Playing fighting or real fighting?
They are most definitely playing. Even if they were not, the younger one is old enough to have instincts when it comes to defensive behaviors and would more than likely hide. The older one is testing the boundaries and obviously does not want to hurt the kitten, or he could definitely do so. Hissing, growling, and other displays of the like are normal when cats play.

If he were attacking, claws and teeth would be constantly bared and he would be relentless. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Playing but older is rough on it i have one who like that with 2 12 weeks old she 5 months old but she like that with my 6 months old to it rough playing that all if get out of hand did what i did put a stop to it so time when playing they bit that why they hiss to my other cat gizmo runs for his life when they are running a muck and he is 4 years old the others are foster feral kittens, i have to give it to misty the 5 months old she spend her day playing with all the kittens that come she like a mother hen when it come to them also they need to be though the rules of cat behaviour

by playing and how far they can go with other cats any way both are just kittens have a great time playing that all
It looks like they are playing ... Cats are very territorial, and so he is just trying to show her who runs the place. I wouldn't worry too much ... It will get better once the little one is older ...
Not sure if it's real separate the little bloke until his12 weeks n he'll b able to defend himself
Kittens at young ages will play fight to heighten their instinct patterns.
normal playing behaviour
OMG your kitties are so CUTE!!! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

That's normal cat behavior. It looks awful, but the ginger isn't nipping the baby that hard. If the baby really felt threatened she would run away and hide all the time, but she's just hanging out. If you think the ginger is being too aggressive you can always break it up, but otherwise don't worry about it.

BTW, make sure to get your boy neutered ASAP if he hasn't been already! Boy kitties start marking around that age, but if you get him neutered before he ever does it will reduce the likelihood that he ever will.
