It's my 1st year with cats what do i need to know about xmas trees?
my cats will be 1yr old they have never been around a tree of any sort.i was wondering if certain ornaments i should not use.?
Nope. You're fine with trees- unless your kitten uses the bathroom on it if you know what I mean. But I would suggest putting the ones that are not like stuffed or glass on the bottom, plastic is best.
Hope I helped and merry Christmas!?
don't use glass. my cat only lays under the tree, but I have heard of them climbing it. nothing sharp either.
You should be fine all your baubles will be bouncing around the room the tree will be a scratch post and they will probably get stuck in tinsel or lights pulling them of.
But some cats are different and don't do anything with it.
Just be careful, they like to pull at the lights and garland. They will bat around anything spherical, like round ornaments. They usually don't go for things like snowflakes because they are flat. You can put anything up just watch them but don't put anything to pricey or sentimental on your tree. They could ruin it.
some cats might make an attempt to climb them others might pee on them and most wont do any thing. mine always just sat under it

my cat
My cat is 3yrs old. And Xmas is an absolute nightmare !!! He loves the Xmas tree and climbs it, bites it, scratches it. It doesn't harm him though it harms the tree lol. My tree isn't a real tree it's a White one, he loves it and drops it Sooooo many times. But I love him so dont mind ;)
When I was little we had a female cat who had claws, was an indoor/outdoor cat, and she climbed it... fell, along with the tree breaking all the breakable ornaments on that side. =(

My Own Cats!!
The tinsel which is shredded foil stuff that is all separate loose pieces that people spread on their trees can make fine hairballs and indigestion for a cat.
The cat will probably try to climb the tree and knock it over.
Glass ornaments can break.
Sharp ornaments are possibly dangerous.
Try not to use that tinsel crap you throw on trees, but really no one does anymore. My kittens are 4 and 6 months old this will be their first christmas as well. We bought all shatter-proof balls for tree. My other cats in the past never wanted to climb it. If you are concerned, maybe at night when you cant watch them or hear them around the tree, close them out of the room with the tree for their safety, thats our plan. Good luck
if you're getting a real tree than you will probably have needles everywhere. if you're getting an artificial tree i would get one with the lights already attached. my mom went to college with a woman who's cat ate tinsell (sp) off her tree and it started pooping it out. some cats climb up trees and others don't. it will be fun to find out.
My parent's cats try to chew the wires for the lights, also one of their cats has bitten a bulb several times and almost shocked itself. They paw at the ornaments and try to knock them down, and they'll climb it.
My cats will both be 3 years old in May, but for the past two years we have not been able to have Christmas trees up. One of the cats is very.. mischievous.. and he does not do well with anything that has a string or is sphere-shaped. It really depends on the cat. My friend's cats both just enjoy sitting underneath of the tree, though they are older than my cats. Hopefully one day we will be able to have a tree as well without the cats attacking everything hanging from it! You're just going to have to test the waters with this year's tree I guess!

Personal experience.
i had a problem with this lol, me and my boyfriend put our christmas tree up (tincel ballballs and lights), and our 7 month old kitten and out cat thats nearly 2 must of everynight when we went sleep must of been playing with it and it got pulled down, so we put it back up again just for it to get pulled down again so we packed that away and bought a fibre optic 5ft tree it just lights up no ballballs or tincel on it, and its stayed up thankgod!
