What do you do to encourage your male cats to consume more water?
Are you feeding them wet food or dry? Add some warm water to there wet food.
They are pretty good water drinkers on their own, but we do feed canned food with added hot water mixed in for extra water every day. Males do better if you give them canned food every day. The less dry the better.
I almost have to make my female cat drink water sometimes when she's dehydrated
Cecil eats canned and raw so he does get plenty of water in his food.
I like him to get more so I encourage his fascination with the sinks. One of his play spots is the bathroom sink (fishing objects out of the water). When I fill the sink for him so he can play in it, nearly every day, I turn the tap on so the water is barely a stream. He LOVES drinking the running water. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I also keep my cats' water bowl clean and full
I've got a fountain, maybe two, but they don't work so well in my house because the cats put whatever they can find in it. Socks, bones, brassieres, wrappers from the trash, their toys, tea bags - I have found all these and more so I can't leave them alone with a fountain.
If you have a cat who does not carry things around much you should definitely try a fountain because cats seem to love running water.
For a raw fed cat you could make liver sauce. Whiz some raw liver and water in the blender and pour this over the rest of his food.
we have an automatic water thingy..... it's like the water cooler things that are in office environments only smaller, but it allows the water to stay fresher. and the cat can tell it's 'running' sort of, he wouldn't drink out of standing water in a bowl, don't know why, our male cat we had previously did fine.
I have not used one but Drinkwell fountains have been suggested. My four male cats consume enough water. At least the litter box says so.
