Should I have bought the kitten?
My boyfriend had his cat for ten years and the poor kitty died last month. since my boyfriend was really sad when walking past the pet shop I saw a very cute kitten that was white like the cat he had. So I bought him but my boyfriend wont go near the new kitty and wants rid of it what should I do keep it and make him love the new kitty or get rid of the poor thing ?
It's a cat. Why would you WANT to buy it?
Yes keep it adopting a kitten is a good thing, so many cats and other animals are getting euthanized. He needs to cope with his other lost cat and a new kitten will help.
You bought it, why don't you keep it? Cats are awesome pets. Otherwise, take the poor baby back to where you got it. You probably won't get a refund, but maybe it will get another home while it's still young and adoptable.
When someones pet of 10 years dies, it is very hard to deal with. You shouldn't of bought the kitten in the first place. He is the one who needs to make the first move saying Maybe I'll get another cat or something like that. Don't make him love the cat he will end up disliking it because you are pressuring him into liking the cat. You can either Keep the cat for you ( if he decides he wants it then give it to him) or find it another home.

My dog died after 15 years of us being together.
After losing his cat of ten years, he may not be able to attach to a new one now. You should either keep it yourself if you live elsewhere, or find it another home. You cannot force someone to want an animal, especially after a recent loss.
Your intentions were to be kind and help your boyfriend, but you have most likely done the complete opposite and made him more upset, not that he doesn't like the kitten but his heart is still raw from his loss, and the kitten being like the one he lost must have really hurt him,not that you realised it you just meant well, pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

10 years is a long time to have his cat so he now needs time to grieve over the cat,and the time it takes is different for all, some feel better getting a kitten some don't and it seems your boyfriend doesn't feel ready just yet,now there is the poor kitten in the middle of the grief so maybe you take it and adopt it as yours, over time your boyfriend may feel ready to love another cat,

and when he does your cat will be waiting, getting a home for it now would be risky as many get them for christmas only for them to be thrown out when they are bored of them in the new year,so hold on to it for its own safety, but i can understand why your boyfriend reacted like that as when i lost my cat to old age the last way i felt was to get another to soon,

but be patient and he will heal, sorry for his loss.
