Need help deciding what to do with this sick kitten :(?
So I have been wanting to find a friend for my year old calico and I found a really rare opportunity. This woman was selling half Bengal/munchkin kittens and she had a boy, 10 weeks old, and looked like the bengal half. So we drove an hour to go see him and he was awesome, but the house wasn't that great. We noticed on the way home that he had green gunk in his eyes and he was sneezing a little bit.

Took him to the vet to find out that he has:

Fleas
Hook Worms
Round Worms
Upper respiratory infection
Eye infection
and might have Herpes.........

SO this is really upsetting, i'm very confused and the breeder practically told me to f off...
He's very cute, kind of shy, looks awesome, warms up to me and all of that.

But, this is going to be very expensive and I don't have a ton of money to spend repeatedly on this sick kitten.

Any opinions :(
use google to find a woman's humane society in your area. they are a lot less expensive then any other vets. And they are understanding of money issues and will work with you. I take my cats there for anything they need and my mom takes her cat the local vet and we always compare bills and mine are usually always half of hers for whatever they get done. Call them and see how much it will be to treat the kitten and see what payment options they have. If you decide you cannot keep the kitten make sure you find a no-kill shelter to take him to. Somewhere where you know they will get him the medical attention he needs and not put him to sleep because all those problems are treatable and he will likely live a good happy long life with the right treatment. Good luck!
You have met up with a backyard breeder. Her kittens won't be high quality and you may not even be getting the "mix" she claims. He could be just a plain old cat (which is fine too if you just want a pet). I understand your concerns and I don't recommend ever supporting the efforts of kitten millers and BYB's by buying their kittens.

If you have truly fallen for this kitten, it sounds like his medical bills will be minimal. He basically needs the same care any kitten will need at first. The fleas, hookworms, and roundworms can be taken care of with a $15 dose of Revolution. The eye infection and URI can be treated with oral and topical antibiotics for about $40. Most cats carry the feline herpes virus. Some never have breakouts. I have 2 cats who have occasional outbreaks but I keep it under control by giving them a 500mg dose of L-lysine every day. A big bottle costs about $7. He'll need to have shots and be neutered which will cost about $100.

That said, if you don't have that kind of money, maybe now isn't the right time to be getting a new kitten. Unless you buy from a reputable breeder, any kitten you get is going to need some vet care. Shelter kittens can be adopted for about $40-100 and will usually come with all the vetting included in the adoption fee. Be sure you can afford a new kitty before bringing one home.
Those are all easily taken care of. I honestly don't get what the big deal is. The only long term consideration is the herpes virus. Many cats have it. It routinely makes its way thru animal shelters across the country. The kitten will be fine once de-wormed and deflea-ed. It's not like they continuously get re-infected with fleas and worms. The herpes virus may occasionally flare up during times of stress but most of the time you'll never know the kitten has it. If you don't want to spend the money, sign the kitten over to the humane society so it can get medical attention. :) I don't mean to be harsh but that's what it's like being a cat owner. You probably got lucky in that your current cat hasn't been sick yet. My cat's last illness was close to $300 in two rounds of antibiotics, an x-ray, and bloodwork. When he needed his teeth cleaned a few years ago, that was close to $200. Recent tumor removal ran over $500 between the surgery, biopsy, and antibiotics. Please consider putting some money aside every month so when your cats get sick, you'll be reaady.

Reputable breeders usually have a contract that allows you to return the kitten if you find health issues in a limited time period (anywhere from 3 days to a year). However, this sounds more like a backyard breeder and that would be something to look for next time you choose to buy a kitten. If you didn't have any paper work, it's usually considered an "as is" sale and you're stuck. Good luck!
You did meet a very bad breeder indeed. You didn't get a Bengal/Munchin but were told that did you see the parents both mother and father? Any reputable breeder would have shown you the parents and their papers of registration. You can't even register this kitten. It is a non pedigree cat not worth any thing but to who loves it. Yep you got a domestic short hair cat. No breeder in their right mind would send a sick kitten home with anyone, let alone a 10 week old kitten they keep them till they are between 12 and 16 weeks and they have their shots, vet checked and a health guarantee. They will have registration papers and a contract to sign. They may also be spayed and neutered. You can return him and try and get your money back or keep him and make sure he gets healthy. You never know what a breeder like that will do with a sick kitten.
