Is there something like puppy mills for cats?
sinnce there is one for dogs, i was thinking there must be something similar for cats
There isn't nearly the market for purebred cats as there is for dogs, which sort of puts the kibosh on the "kitten mill" concept, along with the fact that accidental cat breedings are exponentially more common than accidental dog breedings, so they're usually free.
I have heard of people giving litters to pet stores, where they turn around and sell them.
Yes, they are called kitten mills, but they are more inside in the basements or in a barn - not out in the open.
Yes there are and they are called back yard breeders. They do not care for the health of the cats or if their cats are up to standard. They charge big buck and will sell their kittens to pet stores and the such. The kittens usually are not that healthy and there is no refund and you can't call and talk to the breeder about health issues most of the time. There is usually no contract or health certificate, and you may never know who the kittens real parents are. I am sure the kittens may never have been to the vets or vet checked before you take home the kitten. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
As puppy mills back yard breeders give the good breeders a bad name.

There certainly is - and this is where all the pet store kittens come from, the same as the puppies. The difference is that the kitten millers operate on a smaller scale, and indoors - they are run out of garages and basements. But same as dogs - they are kept in cages, and bred and bred until they can no longer breed. Same concept - same miserable conditions - just done behind closed doors and out of the public eye.
Two of my cats - a Cornish Rex and a lynx point Siamese - came from kitten millers, when they were shut down by animal control. In these situations the people are generally offered two choices - give up the cats to animal control, and/or face cruelty charges.
