If I take a stray cat to Pet Smart, will they take it?
A stray cat showed up outside my back door today, and its owners left it months ago and it hasn't been fed since. My cat has already shown us that she won't like it he comes to live with us. We put food outside and some blankets, but considering we can't keep him, if we take him to Pet Smart or a local animal shelter, will they take him? And if they do, will he have more chances of getting adopted there, or at a pound?
i don't think pet smart takes stray animals
don't take it to a pound
take it to the shelter
If you have a no-kill shelter in your area, take him there and see if they have the room to take him. You can take him to the pound also, but most pounds will euthanize an animal in 3-5 days if they are not adopted.
Animal shelter, possibly. I think Petsmart gets their animals through a shelter system that screens them first. Try to find a no-kill shelter... the chances of adoption are not good for an adult cat. You could try Petfinders, too -- post it as adoptable. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
About your cat... almost ALL cats are hissy and unfriendly for a week or two, but they almost always adapt. We have four that were all strays and it doesn't usually take too long for them to adjust. \
Thanks for trying to help that cat!
Take it to your nearest shelter, or even a vet.
A store like Pet Smart, or Petco wont take care of it nearly as well as a shelter or a vet would.

Having pets, and once I bought a bird from Petco and I found out they sold him to me already sick.
The cats and kittens you see at PetSmart are from local shelters. So no - they would take in a cat. Take it to your local shelter and make sure it's "no-kill". This site lists them by state
http://www.saveourstrays.com/nokill.htm You need to call & ask your local animal shelter if it is a no-kill shelter. Also, call Pet Smart & ask them if they will take the cat. You can always put the cat on freecycle & Craig's List.
