How to keep cats from fighting?
Ok, does this sound like it would work?
I've been reading up on cat behavior issues and fighting, and one thing that I've read is that cats have to figure out a dominance ranking. My 2 spayed female cats (one is declawed, the other isn't) have had some nasty skirmishes. The declawed cat is very territorial. If I restrain the other cat (one with claws) in a harness with a lead attached, and have a spray bottle on hand, would that be okay? I really don't want them to fight, but I know they have to establish dominance some way or another. I've tried to introduce them by keeping one in a kennel while the other investigates, but the declawed cat is very defensive. Maybe I haven't done that enough times. Can anybody, anybody please (!) tell me what I should do?
ok well that's a good plan but having one on a harness is not fair and will not work. have the spray bottle in hand and lock both in the bathroom with you so that there is space to watch them. just keep spraying and spraying also try putting both in different kennels and switching them so they get each other's sent.
I have a couple of suggestions. Get some Soft Paws (or Soft Claws) for the kitty with claws. You can apply them yourself or search for a groomer to do it. Once the cats get along, you won't have to keep applying them unless you want to.

Also, invest in some Feliway plug-in diffusers. They work very well for territorial aggression.

declawing your kitty has caused it to be more defensive...they have calming collars (like a flea collar) that you can use or try some Feliway, use the spray not the plug ins they don't work as good
