Conditioning in Cats?
My cat eats dry food daily, and "special" food (mystery-meat-ish) 2-3 times a week. The meat, when we give it to him, is mixed with the dry food. My cat also 'meows' at extreme levels when he is hungry, but now, he 'meows' even when his food dish is full (with the non-dry food), most likely because he wants the tastier food.
Would it be reasonable to conclude that DaVinci (cat's name) has been associating the dry food with the mixture of both the dry and non-dry food? If so, could the incessant meowing be avoided by exclusively giving him the non-dry meat, that is, giving him the two foods separately?
He's perfectly able to taste good food and let you know he wants it.
Ours mostly go to the fridge with us and stand there in the open door waiting for us to give them something.
