What To Do With These Cats?
I live in a studio apartment, that means an apartment with no bedroom. And there are three stray cats that come in to eat. Including my cat that makes four cats. I've been posting on craigslist but no body wants them. Someone on craigslist did adopt a stray siamese from my neighborhood but nobody wants these other cats. The animal shelter in my town charges $100 to take a cat in. Because it's a no kill shelter, you have to pay them $100 to take a cat in. The thing that is a pain about this is they're always hungery and they're always running out in front of me and they're alway fighting because of the small space. I'm tired of it all. What do I do? I let them outside but it seems like everytime I open the door to let one out, another one comes in. One of the cats has agrophobia. So he doesn't like being outside for more than 5 or 10 minutes. Then hescratches on he door.
answer: I took in a stray dog that ended up being nuts locked him in the basement and then took him to the shelter at around 3am and dropped him off in the back cage filled out paperwork but left my name and phone number off. No shelter should charge people $100 dollars. Shelter where I lived charges you $50 dollars to get your pet out and to adopt one.
Hummm don't know if this will work, but maybe you can talk the shelter in letting you foster them. Maybe they'll donate some food for you and post in their shelter to get them good homes. Isn't there another shelter in a nearby city that will accept them for free? Try this site
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com http://www.terrific-cats.com they have an adoption section and a free trial to post kittens. I feel for you, but you are offering them the best chance at finding a forever home and not starving or freezing outside.
Drop them off at the Animal Shelter. 3:00 in the morning would be a good time.
Those cats did not just show up and say wow this is were the Kitty Cafe is... you started feeding them Now what to do..... well you can pay 100.00 at the shelter, you can look for a shelter that kills I think they only charge 20.00 or you can find a program that does low cost fixing get them fixed and shots socialize with them and maybe you will find them a home.. I do hope when you advertise them you make sure someone makes an inside pet out of the one that does not like to go out.. This upsets me cause you know it is not the cats fault it is the owners that left them to fend for themselves. You have been kind and I hope you find it in your heart to keep being kind to them. :)
OK, first, when you put an add on Craigslist make sure you put price for the cats at least $20, this way you know the cats getting adopted by good people, if you put a free add then some one might adopt and they could send the cats to experiment lab. Second, if you spay/neuter cats they will be more calm. They sell this plug inn thing in pet shop that releases nice scent but what it does it actually relaxes the cats and calms them down. Third, when you feed them, try mixing dry with can this way takes longer to digest and they will not be hungry as much. At the end, if you don't want to do this, then just Pay the $100 dollars at least you know they will get adopted instead killing them. I gave you my opinion, but it is you that needs to make a decision. If This was me, I would do what I wrote on the top, have them spayed/neutered and that's all, but then that's me. I believe you will make the right decision. good luck
2 words: Pellet gun.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Kidding aside, feral cats are a serious problem. One un-spayed female can have 100s of offspring in just a couple of years. They kill birds, spread diseases...
They're a VERY big problem - especially for folks like me who live in "the country" - because of all the morons who think dumping them off "in the woods" is better than taking them to the shelter.
As I see it, you have 2 choices: Adopt them - meaning YOU take responsibility for feeding, spay/neuter, shots and other care - or get rid of them by whatever means are necessary. If you choose the pellet-gun route, it MUST be used by someone with the skill to kill instantly and painlessly.
Bleeding hearts aside, a painless death is - by far - more humane than a life of cold, starvation and disease, not to mention the environmental and other damage you prevent. I've trapped countless feral cats and sent them to a shelter where I am 100% sure they were eventually euthanized - there simply isn't anything else to be done with large numbers of feral, un-tameable, wild cats.
