Has anyone ever tried to kill fleas with salt?
I am trying to kill an "infestation" due to a neighbor having fleas. I've heard salt works apparently well, but does anyone have any tips for that?
I've used many products from spot treatments, dawn, anti-flea shampoos, raids, flea sprays, and many other forms. I currently have just used Down & Under Shampoo, and I was just going to comb my animal, and I looked under his neck, and it appeared all the fleas were dead, it has been confirmed, as I have removed them off of him without them running away. I'm trying to find a better solution to killing the fleas in total, so would the salt be an option to dry them out?
By the way, the fleas appeared out of no where, I have an indoor cat, and I live in a basement apartment , could the fleas have gotten in through a basement window from a neighbor? My landlord has a few cats, and I am positive they have fleas, though my cat and his cats have never interacted, so I don't see a possibility of getting them through his animals. I have sealed off air vents and whatnot as well, to prevent them from jumping around. If anyone could please help me. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
If it all possible, could I throw my area rugs into a shed over the winter, so that the eggs and larvae get killed as well?
answer: For one thing. DON'T use salt on an animal. It will 'burn' their skin.
I would research the life cycle of the flea.
It's most important to treat the house as well.
Vacuum really well every day, pay particular attention to the corners and all edges of the room.
Fleas won't 'jump' through vents or windows.
You need to treat all your rugs as well.
You need to 're treat' your cat at intervals. As any eggs will hatch into fleas.
Don't use loads of different things on your cat.
You will overload his/her system. which can be dangerous.
I would suggest you use Diatomaceous Earth in the house. This will kill the fleas.
You can also dust your cat all over with it.
Google it and do research. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I buy mine from Ebay.
There are 2 different types.
You can add the FOOD GRADE to your cats food, to help prevent fleas and worms.
The other type, which is much cheaper, can be used in the house.

Along with pet shampoo, put a few plates with water and dish detergent on the floor. This will attract fleas and kill them. It's also not a bad idea as you mentioned to put area rugs outside for the winter, but you might have to break down and get the old fashioned bug bomb or two and nuke the little b@stards. Total War!!!
The easiest solution would be to get frontline plus for your cat. It will kill the fleas on the cat, and in the house.
Its possible that a flea could of got on you and you took it with you into the basement and it jumped on your cat and lagged eggs or there could of already been fleas down there when you moved in.

You should try putting flea advantage for cats on your cat, give your cat a bath and dry really good . Try vacuuming everywhere, even wash all your clothes and sheets. Fleas love warm, dark corners to live. They can't live off humans but they can bite you. I don't suggest you put salt on your cat. Try putting vinegar & lemon in a spray bottle and spray it around the basement, i've tired it once and it seemed to work.
Yes, usually the winter/cold kills the fleas so, I guess you can put your rugs outside. You should tell this guy to get some flea drops or something for his cats.
Good luck!
