Does my cat care for kittens?
my cat just had her kittens a few hours ago and now she follows me every where and doesn't really seem to be caring for kittens unless i am in the room with her. she had them in my room and when i leave her in there she cries and then she finally gos with them but she see that i go in she follows me
answer: Is this her first litter? Chances are she's just your average terrified new mom looking to her own mother for help.
Sit down with her and have her lay down with the kittens, pet her and watch her nurse. She'll probably feel more comfortable. If your misses is anything like mine, you might even have to sleep next to the nest for the next couple of nights before she becomes comfortable enough to be more of an independent mother.
When my cat had her first litter she wouldn't leave my side for the first week and demanded that I be there at the nest with her, even sleep on the floor right next to it. Why did I bother to comply to such craziness? Because if I didn't, I'd wake up to three itty bitty baby kittens under the covers with me in MY bed. Don't be surprised if this happens, too. It all depends on how close you two are. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Just stick with her and be a supportive mom.

Hi, we had the same kind of problem ... we just left our cat in a room, with food, water, a kitty litter and a cardboard box with a hole cut into it, this let her look after the kitten and still be able to do her normal thing. She wanted to follow us around and leave the room so we would go in there, sit down and put her in the box and make sure the klittens were sucking and then we would slowly leave ... she would usually follow us to the door but slowly (we saw throught a window ..) we saw she was getting used to the idea of looking after the kittens ... now the kittens are just over three weeks old , still getting looked after by her and she is an awesoem mum and makes sure they're ok ..
hope this helped:)
You give me cause to giggle - guess where your kitty learned her dependence on you? Obviously, you've been a good owner, and now she wants to have you there for her babies, too - she's sharing, and that's a compliment.

All of the answers here are great one - abide by them, and know that your mama kitty will adjust when she is certain that you approve of what she is doing, and you "accept" her babies, and... her plight.
Enjoy - then she'll have plenty of milk to feed her kitties for weeks to come.
She was either taken from her mother too soon or something happened that she does not understand the parental bond . You will have to help feed or take over feeding these kittens. She if she can get her to feed them if you help.
