My wife and I rescused this cat almost two months ago and I wanna know how old she is. She's mostly white and has a few black spots, like a cow, so it's a little hard to see any gray. She's got super long whiskers (which I'm not even sure has anything to do with age), she's super long when she lays out on the floor, can stand up on her hind legs and reach the door knob, she's got pink paws (not showing any sign of old age with wrinkles or anything), she's sometimes lazy and slow but every night she has her own little party and runs crazy around the house and seems pretty agile and active.

Um, since when do cat paw pads get "wrinkled" with age? I had a cat live till 19 and his pads never looked any different.

Why haven't you taken the cat to the vet for a checkup and shots? The vet can give you an estimate on her age based on the translucency of her teeth.

Cut her in half and count the rings. No, wait ...

The thing about taking her to the vet to find out is that even they will only be able to give to a rough estimate. And of course there could be factors in her life that effected her teeth that cause inaccuracy in their estimate. Fortunately, there's not a lot of reason to know her exact age, expect maybe if you wanted to get pet insurance. Just know that she sounds pretty young yet and you can probably expect a long happy life with her:)

we adopted two adult female cats and we had no idea how old they were, the vet gave us an estimate based on something with their eyes ... the one we thought was the oldest ... only because she was deaf .... was actually the younger of the two .... she as solid white .. and actually she died first .. at about 9 years .. the other cat died at thanksgiving last year at about 17 years old .. she was a beautiful friend to us for 11 years!

Here's a rough way to tell a cat's age. Look at the pupils. Are they sharp or are the edges a bit ragged? Ragged edges are an indication of an old cat.

The ONLY way is to have a vet check her teeth. They can give you an estimate. Not, 'she's 4 yrs to 7 yrs', but a more direct answer like, 'shes 5 or 6.' They can narrow it down good ...

Your vet can usually tell by looking at the teeth. Cats' teeth change by age. Your cat sounds like a young adult maybe 1-3 years, but there is no way to tell without actually seeing the cat. In my experience, if you plan to keep the cat, you should definitely get it a check up with blood work to make sure it doesn't have FIV, heart-worm, intestinal worms, ringworm, ear mites, or feline leukemia and to get vaccinations for rabies, distemper, etc. and parasite medication if it is otherwise healthy. Cats who are on the streets for awhile can pick up a lot of diseases and you want to make sure your kitty is healthy before keeping it and exposing it to other pets and people, especially children. Your vet will be able to tell you how old your cat is then. Many SPCAs will provide a basic check up, vaccines, and spay/neuter for a nominal price and some have programs for free spay/neuter .

There are two ways to age a Cat, her bone structure and her teeth. Cats up to 4 years of age have a type of bone that is, to use layman's terms, more springy. As a Cat ages beyond 4 the bone structure becomes more solid and firm. Run your hand down her spine from the back of her neck down to the base of the tail. If it all has the same firmness then she is over 4 years old. If any part of it lighter or springier (like cartilage) then she is under 4. To be sure take her to a Vet who can tell you based on her teeth. Most people don't know this but many animals, including Cats, lose their first set of teeth or "baby teeth" between 4 and 7 months of age at which point their "adult" teeth grow in which are larger, and more firm. (baby teeth are smaller and clear; adult teeth firm and white like chalk)
