Is it okay to feed my cat a sugar cube as a treat?
Just like a horse?

I wouldn't.
There are treats that are healthier and that he/she would probably enjoy more. The ancestors of domestic cats did not have much access to sugar, so it did not make up a significant part of their diet. It is of no nutritional value and can be unhealthy in large quantities.
NO! It is not ok. Sugar is simple carbohydrate and is easily broken down. The sudden shot of blood sugar level is not good for them and can lead to diabetes, a common disorder in cats, and it can complicate into a lot of other problems. Cat's are not designed to have sweets since they feed mainly on animal protein and get their source of energy from animal fat instead of starches and grains. They may like it, but it is DEFINITELY not good for them.

It's really not a good idea to even give a cat a taste for sugar. Obviously you know a cat is differnet than a horse but you might not realise HOW different they are biologically because a horse is an herbivore and a cat is an "obligate carnivore" / " true carnivore" Cats are made to eat meat, not sugar, grains etc, their bodies are less equipped to cope with those things. They don't have the enzymes that a horse or a human does to process it. so it's likely to keep its blood sugar higher longer. Not that giving your cat a sugar cube will kill it or make it instantly get diabetes (though actually there have been experiments where cats who were put on a glucose drip turned diabetic within days, in a form of insulin resistance known as glucose toxicity ) But in my opinion it is just better to give cats animal source protein for their treats. for example there are freeze dried chicken or liver snacks, or my cats love dried salmon pieces called "Salmon Snacks" by Snack 21. Those kind of things, or a bite of leftover meat or a small piece of cheese would be better for a cat than a sugar cube or fruit like you give horses.
Well that depends on many things but I highly recommend you ask your vet if it is ok for your cat to eat sugar cubes, and Im sure he will tell you the good news and the bad new about feeding your cat sugar cubes.

Best you know the facts before putting your kitty at risk.
No, it is not good. It can hurt their teeth and body, while it doesn't have much nutritional value. It's not really food for a carnivorous animal.
Cats cannot taste sweets. It is a genetic trait found in all cats, from lions to tabbies. I can't imagine why a cat would eat sugar. Your cat was licking the salt from your hand.
Maybe once in a while, if the cat even recognizes it as food I guess. I wouldn't do it real often.
I once let my cat lick the top of an Ice Cream carton. He was flying around the kitchen, I've never seen him move so fast.
LOL you can try it, but he won't eat it!!
