Cat with coughing fits and mucus on his last legs.?
We don't know what to do!! Our domestic shorthair tigger is on his last legs, he is dying right before my very eyes and I am just helpless to do anything. He has on and off over a span of a year, or so. (It has been so long I have lost track.) Coughing, gagging, excessive mucus, listlessness, has trouble eating and drinking , rapid weight loss, even trouble breathing and it has been such a strain on him that he has actually had seizures when he sleeps. We have taken him to the vets office, two different ones several times and they just keep saying the same thing, that he has a respiratory infection, they would send him home with antibiotics and it would help with the worst of the symptoms, but it wouldn't take care of the problem. He would seem better for a time, while taking the antibiotics and then as soon as the treatment was over, (we have tried several of these right up to the strongest they can give without killing him) and he would get sick again worse than before. We don't know what to do, he is now dying and none of the vets will say anything aside from it is a respiratory infection without even giving him anything other than the basic tests, so I ask you what do we do? We don't want our cat to die!
answer: Your cat can be allergy to the food you are feed Him! If it seizures should be put on steriod for the seisurers and help with inflamation in his lung! the doctor might have to change the antibiotics. His body gets used to the same antibiotics. Might ask if could give him special formula Milk to get his strengh back and some weight then sofe food. If he can drink even a little each hour. Do you know if he swallow anything that is blocking stomach or intestine to clear medical. Is he an out side cat? I hope I help some! It is alot of work and time to feed him but worth it if he gets better. Ask the vet can they keep him to Iv him fluids and meds threw the iv which is faster to releive the cat from coughfing and mucles! Was the cat test for diabetes? find out from vets! My prayers are with you and your cat! Sheila
It sounds like your cat does have an upper respiratory infection. You can treat it yourself at home by using a natural, herbal product called Respiratory Aid like I did for my cat. It helped cleared his little stuffy nose, de-congested his sinuses and lungs and basically helped him to breathe much better. You can buy it online and I think they also do overnight shipping too -

If the cat is real old then there is nothing we can do. If he is then be REAL CALM around him. If he isn't old, then just let him get lots of rest and remember that everyone or everything will die sooner or later. I am really sorry, but I don't know if there is any thing else you can do.
