You don't. So don't get one . Cats forced to live outdoors end up run over by cars, eaten by coyotes, shot at, poisoned, etc, etc, etc. http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac ...

By" we want a cat "you seem to mean that" I want a cat and my mom really doesn't want one at all. "Cats can live 15 + years, and if the whole household isn't into it, you shouldn't make that commitment. The average lifespan of an outdoor only cat is four to five years, even with proper routine preventative medical care. You just can't keep them safe from cars and predators, no matter where you live. Don't do that to your cat - and don't set yourself up for the heartbreak of losing one you love far too early.

Someday you'll have your own life and make your own household decisions, and you can give some lucky cat or cats a wonderful home. Just be patient, and until then, you can love your friends' cats, volunteer to help at a shelter, etc.

theirs no garentee that your cat will stay at your house. If she is kept outside she is definatly going to explore different places their may be a chance that she will come back because of you feeding her their but their is a possiblity that she wont come back. If she is normaly an indoor cat dont put it outside. I say dont get a cat if your gonna leave it outside their are many dangers your cat can encounter .

The cat needs to be neutered. When a cat gets in "heat" they tend to run away in search for a mate. If you castrate your cat (see a veterinarian) the cat will always stick around in your yard because they won't search for a mate and they will always want you to feed them and pet them.

I had indoors/outdoors cat.

Just keep some food out there. It will stick around. And be sure to spend time with it. If it enjoys playing with you, it will certainly be there again and again to continue playing with you. They like attention; so give it to it. Never met a cat that didn't like either a belly rub or it's chin rubbed, or some scratching behind their ears. Good luck.

As long as you keep feeding it it will probably come back.

Also, if you can, open up the garage just a little bit so that it can sneak in in the cold months. It needs refuge in the snow.
Kittens get very hyper so I see why your mom doesn't want a cat.

Good luck!
