Parakeet too small to lay eggs and have babies?
We've had one of our parakeets lay eggs in the past and it was a cool expirience but and we want to do it again but she is too old. We have another female and male but were afraid she is too frail. She's just a tiny little thing and her mom was just as small but were afraid it might kill her. Do you think she'll be ok?
answer:
Parakeets and other birds don't have to mate to lay eggs. The eggs from non-mating birds are unfertilized. If the parakeet is too small to lay eggs, the eggs will probably be small as a result, but I'm not sure. Birds who lay eggs need Vitamin D3 from natural sunlight and calcium in their diet to form the hard shell of the egg.

She should be. Parakeets don't usually mate until they're physically and environmentally able to.
