My cockatiel won't let me touch or hold him?
My mom bought a cockatiel about 2-3 weeks ago. He hasn't let us touch or hold him since we got him, when we go to feed him, he moves to the other side of his cage and keeps his mouth open like he's about to bite us until we remove our hand from the cage, then he moves back over to the side and is fine. He gets angry and tries to bite us if we put our fingers against the side of the cage, but we can put our faces right up against it and it doesn't bother him. Is there any way to get him to calm down so that we could at least touch him and then eventually get him to let us hold him? I heard if you put a mirror in his cage, that will help a little. We put a mirror on the outside of the cage facing him, but it only turned him very violent. You could just walk by the cage and he would hiss at you and try to bite you without you even being close to his cage. We've tried everything we know of to try to get him to calm down. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!
answer: I know a answer to your question! He doesn't know you well yet, you got to give him some time to know you. feed, and play without touching him like talking or whistling. then after 1 month try taking him out with a glove (any kind of glove) and take him out. after 1-2 week of playing with him with the glove try taking your glove off and play with him!! hope i helped.
