Is peacock farming for feathers cruel?
I'd like to try and make a dress and have a few peacock feathers decorating it, is the collection of the feathers cruel? Do people farm these birds specifically for their feathers and kill them? I'd like to hope that they just pick up the feathers that fall off or that the birds malt but I don't see how there are so many feathers out there!

I'm not asking just about their tail feathers with the eyes but the smaller blue, green and gold feathers that you see on peacocks chests and backs called plumage or saddle plumage,

Thanks in advance :)
answer:
you do not have to kill them, they just go through great pain while getting their feathers plucked. Its like plucking each and every single piece of hair we have.
Don't be ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Feathers are SHED or PLUCKED!!!! Nobody kills for feathers....because DEAD STUFF STOPS MAKING THEM!
Birds are edible, btw. They're plucked/skinned after slaughter.

All feathers are "plumage"...that's what the word means.

*&* NO,plucking is NOT painful! ARs sure do lie a lot.
No one farms them for just feathers alone , they collect the feathers when they moult twice a year and I do not believe that anyone plucks the feathers for decoration as this would be painful for the bird.

The small feathers which you describe are take from moulting or dead birds.
