Congratulations on your new baby!
African Grey Parrots will "dig" at the bottom of their cage or on the carpet. This is a normal behavior for them as in the wild, they do this to loosen dirt and mud. I have a CAG that does this in his cage or on my bed. Yes, interact with him as much as you can- both of you. My little guy has decided to bond completely with me, and only me.It has it's challenges but if that's what he wants.... pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
Is he biting or is he testing you? Babies tend to nibble and bite to test you out. Don't react to it and it should stop eventually. My guy is 9 months old and rarely bites- it would be an extreme circumstance (frightened, angry, etc) for him to bite me. He does still "beak" my fingers every now and then (biting but without any force) . I just tell him to be "gentle", that's our power word and he understands it. Greys are wonderful family additions. Enjoy...and don't forget to be silly..they love it! :)
It is rare that a baby grey will actually bite. Most likely he is just "beaking", using his tongue and beak to explore, touch and taste objects and fingers. Birds also use their beak to steady themselves when climbing. A bird's beak really acts like a finger or hand for them.

This is the perfect time for you to teach your baby new things. Touch him on all areas of his body, such as tail, wings and feet. This will be a real advantage later if you ever need to visit the vet or clip his nails. Socialise him lots, expose him to new people and new experiences, such as car rides, which again will be a huge benefit later.

Why not come check out a great forum: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/
I've been a member there since I got my CAG 2.5 years ago, and have received lots of help and input. You can also try check out Feathered Friends on Facebook.
The digging is natural foraging behaviour, so no worries there. They will do it from time to time, or quite regularly, in either case there is nothing you need to do or be concerned with.

The biting is actually "beaking" unless it actually draws blood. When he does it, don't flinch, but tell him "gentle, please" and use your other hand to remove his beak if he latches on. Again, this is normal.

You are going to have MANY questions in the coming weeks and months, so join an African Grey forum. It's a great resource for new "parronts." :)
