Questions On how to take care of lovebirds?
I have two lovebirds, born during Christmas time.
My first issue is that they don't trust me a lot. They often fly away from me, When I try to pet them. However, they perch on my finger easily, let me feed them, and often fly and perch on my head. They do trust me a little. HOw do I gain their trust?

I don't like the fact that they only eat seeds and millet. It's full of fat, and I want them to get some nutrition in them. They have had cuttlebone in their cage for a week, and have not touched it. Ails have attempte to moe them eat blackberries and cherries. No luck. I know lovebirds like oranges, so I made a orange stack and hung it to the cage a few minutes ago. HOW DO I MAKE THEM EAIT FRUIT AND VEGGIES?!?!
Lastly, my sister likes to scare them. I tell her to stop, but she doesn't listen. They live in my room. How do I make her stop? pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Thanks!
answer:
Just keep spending lots of time with them! Also you might want to spend time with them individually (like in a different room then the other) since you have a pair they will bond to each other, so you will never be able to have that super close relationship that you can have if it is a single bird. However since they are a pair they will never be lonely! :-)

I don't know what to do about your sister, but her scaring them will make it harder for them to trust any human including you. Maybe you should talk to your mom or dad about your sister's behavior. The best way to explain to her would be imagine if a giant bird that was 100 times her size scared her every day would that be a happy way to live? Your birds have feelings just like she does, imagine how the must be worried every day about her.

As for food, the best thing is to get them on a pellet diet. Like this stuff http://shopping.yahoo.com/736812294-zupr…

you can introduce it to them by mixing it with their seeds. I would give them enough seeds so they won't starve, but not enough to keep them from being hungry. Eventually they will try the pellets & once they get used to them they will like them. Just be firm & eventually they will eat healthier. I'm glad you are trying to get them off seeds! That is very responsible!

As for fruit & veggies keep trying different things, it has taken me years to get my parrot to eat veggies. Her first owner fed her the most aweful crap and so many treats. She really won't eat veggies unless I sit there and eat them with her. Birds like to act as a flock, so you might try eating some veggies & fruit while you are sitting with them. They will see you eating it & think that it must be good if you are eating it.

Good Luck with your bird friends!
The best thing to feed them is just regular bird seed like you buy at wal-mart
