I got a cockatiel a few days ago. its good with people but we had a mirror in its cage cuz it came with it but its going crazy over its reflection cuz it won't talk back 2 it. soo we were thinking maybe it needs a playmate. my cockateil is a male, his name is andy , after the any griffen show if you ever heard of it cuz he likes to whistle the anygriffen opening theme song. some people think parakeets are nice friends for cockatiels especually the female parakeets cuz the males seem to be less annoying than the females. so if u could please help me my bird would be alot happier and won't scream in the middle of the night when u have school the next day.

don't get a parakeet/budgie. budgies are territorial towards other species of birds so they will fight, cockatiels are very timid and can not protect/defend themselves to the attacks. the cockatiel could get bald spots and so much more.
get another cockatiel friend for your bird. i suggest another guy because they can be fiends rather than girlfriend/boyfriend with a girl.
to introduce cockatiels together the safe way (fist do a vet chackup to see if the new or old one has any diseases), buy a seperate cage (doesnt have to be big) then put the new bird in the new cage on the otheer side of the room. after a week o so you can start movig the cages closer and closer together each day until they are ight beside each other. this is so they can observe each other and get to know how they act. when you take them out to play, take your first one out first, as he may get jealous, if you think that they will get along, let them play with each other and see how they act to that. when you are sure they like each other, you can put them in the same cage (preferably a new one, if you can't that's fine, just make sure they aren't territorial). if you see any sugn of distress inside the cage, remove them immediatly.

I would get another cockatiel. Andy would feel comfortable with another bird of the same type of him. Another reason is that another cockatiel being there, is that he might feel like he is in the natural habitat of a cockatiel, eastern Australia.

Owning a cockatiel for two years

Buy another cockatiel. As it is a male, you could buy both a male or a female, it doesn't matter a lot. If you buy a young one, the chance is even bigger that your bird will have no problems accepting the newcomer.
