I want to get a parakeet. I know you can tell which is male and which is female by the color of the cere. But I was wondering if there are other differences?
The males tend to be more vocal. They are more likely to learn to speak words than females. I also find that the males are a lot more laid back than the females.
Females tend to be a bit aggressive and territorial at times. They tend to be quieter.
I think that either make terrific pets though. I have both a male and a female, and they are both terrific.
It is very hard to tell with most birds because they look almost exactly the same males are sometimes more vocal though, and the nose is the easiest way to tell the difference.
