How should I make my new parakeet more comfortable with me?

She's about 4 weeks old and I just got her today. I left her alone with some soft music playing and offered her some millet like the pet store suggested, to which she just fluttered away. I can hold her on my hand or finger for about a minute and then she gets brave and flutters away. Is this good? Does this mean she's at least/somewhat/used to be to let me hold her for a little while?

What can I do to make her more comfortable? Some said to talk to her and others said to leave her alone. I only have one, so I don't want her to be lonely.
If you want the parakeet to bond with you don't get another bird. Their main affections go to the other bird and less on you, plus they don't sing and stuff as much (Which parakeets can do believe it or not!)

To make your birdy more comfortable, There are many things you can do to help him get situated.

1) For the first week or so just leave it in it's cage in order for him to get adjusted to it's surroundings.

2) Birds do love seed, but if i were you SWITCH THEM TO PELLETS! They're so much healthier for birds, And makes their feathers and fecal droppings healthier. (They still need fruit and veggies as well as small amounts of seed too !)

3) Does it have a cuttle bone? They need it for calcium and stuff.

4) after it's situated for the first week, try just putting your hand in the cage, holding him/her and talking softly to it. After she's comfortable sitting on your hand, then you should start taking her out of the cage and repeating that . Birds love affection, but for the first month or to, the bird will be nervous. I've had my tiel for 7 months now. It took him about two months to adjust. Anyways, Try covering their cage at night. It makes them feel more comfortable and lets them know its bed time. If you can, try to put the birds cage in a corner. This makes them feel more comfortable and make it so they know that nobody can sneak up on them. She will have to be hand tamed which will take lots of attention and time. That is why she flutters away. She's Just nervous and will eventually stay on your hand. It's good that she stays on for a while. Just keep practicing EVERY day, and don't give up. Im gonna be honest with you, taming your bird is really tough, but SO worth it. Also flying is good, as long as you take the necessary precautions in your home to make sure its safe for her to fly. Parakeets need lots of exercise, so make sure they have plenty of toys!!! pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

* I don't know if this is for parakeets, but for tiels, DON'T GIVE THEM THE MIRROR 24/7!!!! It makes my bird psycho, from his hormones raging (That's mainly with males though.

I hope i helped! Just speak to her softly and pay the attention to her she needs!

Don't give up!!!! (: (: (:
4 weeks old? That bird isnt even weaned? Can it eat by itself? The minimum age u shiudl get a bird is like 2-3 MONTHS.

just sit by her. read a book and talk to her. when she sems intersted in you and is comfortable (not jeetry) take her out and play.
You should leave your parakeet for atleast a few days. I normally leave my parakeet for a week before I start taming them. Hold millet in your hand, sing to the bird and spend time with the budgie until it trusts you.

Hope this helped!
I just bought two parakeets a couple days ago. I bought an album off of itunes called "Animal Voices vol.1 budgies" and my birds love it. Also I would get another one if I were you , I am no expert but mine really enjoy each others company.
