My 26 year old cockatiel is sick .. Sleeping on the bottom of the cage .. Not whistling, I don't have any money for a vets .. He's like family and I have him snuggled up by my neck right now keeping him warm . He loves me very much and I thought this would be the best place for him. Any suggestions for a very poor person trying to care for my bird?

Keep him warm and comfortable. Since he enjoys snuggling with you, spend as much time with him as you can. This is probably the end of his life, but 26 years is very long. My sympathy to you.
The best answer I can give you is try antibiotics from the pet store. At 26, he may not make it, but it is certainly worth a try. I know there are people out there that will probably say you SHOULD have put enough aside to see a vet if you own a bird, but we all do the best we can with what we've got. Get those antibiotics as quickly as possible and get them down him with an eyedropper. GO!
try going to the pet store and buying medicine or going to a drug store and buying drinkable vitamins. Then get a syringe and give it by mouth and give it lots of heat. The exact same thing happended to my 16 year old cockatiel was taken to the vet and said it only had 48 hours left but did all this and now is better then nothing. GOOD LUCK!!!
