the male cockatiel died female sits all day inthe food bowl wont move and is silent
Had the same thing happen a few years ago. Afterward Cupie started plucking her feathers out of loneliness and stress. It took me nearly a year to get it under control. I didnt think her and Lola (the tiel that passed away) were all that close concidering they lived in separate cages and Cupie has a mate, Norman. I was wrong though.
Tiels are social creatures and thus highly emotional. She is sad and hurting. Talk to her, hold her if you can, maybe get some extra special treats for her, and make her feel loved and cared about. She will begin to turn around. Buying another bird isnt always the best answer because she will still be mourning the death of her mate. Give her time, and if in a month or so she seems to be getting better, then think about another bird.
She misses her mate. I suggest trying a new one. Remember to quarentine the new mate or female friend for about 2 weeks before introducing them. She just wants a friend. I also suggest giving her more attention until you get her a friend or mate.:)
