My 1 year old conure has been acting likd of scared and nervous lately and I don't know why. For whatever reasons, he has screamed and flew off his cage looking for me today. His wings are clipped and he can't fly far , but he always seems to be flying to me and looking for me. I wouldnt worry about that if he didn't scream loudly before he does that. It's like he's frightened.
Me and him live here alone, and it's pretty quiet around here most of the time. There is no noise I can hear, but I've been told that sun conures have a very high-grade of hearing, so maybe he is hearing something outside? His cage isn't near any windows so I know it's not a visual thing.
Could pain from molting feathers do that? His feathers are growing in from a small molt, and maybe he's just in some kind of pain.
I don't know. Any suggestions?
Try to put a small quiet radio near his cage and see what happens.
When I was breeding and selling conures I told everyone anything they did was caused by "conurism" . They just have very distinct personalities and are very entertaining. I think the bird is just looking for you now that it's well on it's way to maturing sexually. I wouldn't worry about it. Keep a close eye on him and make sure he's eating the same and not sitting fluffed like he doesn't feel well. Sounds like you have done a great job with him.
I think he just wants to be with you. I had a conure before, and she was noisy, and acted the same way .... probably just wants more attention.
