Lovebirds: And their Affection?

Hi I just adopted a lovebird. The lovebird is very sweet and gentle. It's a peach faced love bird. I sort of have a dilemma when I take my lovebird out it never wants to leave my side and will never go back in it's cage. I have never had a bird like this before. It just sits there right next to me and tries to get as close as possible but I also have a little pomeranian who doesn't like the bird and I keep a gate up in the kitchen so the dog can't get to the lovebird when I take it out but the whenever I do try to take the lovebird out it takes 30 minutes to put it back in it's cage because it refuses to go back in. Any suggestions?
hi, congratulation you got a very sweet lovebird, first of all i will give you some tips that i hope help you

so here are he few tips

1) first of all make the daily routine how much time you and your lovebird spent together out of cage like i do for my lovebirds, mostly i put their cage out when they are in my room and at the night i bring the cage in my room and let them know that this is your sleeping time

so they go back to their cage, sometimes they dont want to go back so what i do, i just switch the light off bcoz they know that i turned the light off for sleeping and after few seconds turn the lights on, so they quickly ggo back to their cage

the great time is evening when you put lights are turn off and still the room is little bit shine bcoz of outside (wat i do is keep the lights of till evening so when thr room is little bit darker they go inside the cage, i usually do this when i am very busy)

so my lovebirds without any difficulties go back to their cage

2) Avoiding Aggression When Trying to Get a Parrot to Go Back Inside its Cage

3) make a daily routine like from 3.00 pm to 6.00pm or anything you want but first you put her on a schedule. Her time in and out of the cage - so she always knows what to expect.

and the time is that the dog is not disturb and your bird too can enjoy outside without worry

4) start treating her when you put her back in her cage pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

5) praise her and try to give the most irresistible treat, whatever that might be. Positive reinforcement is vital to training. Make sure you don't accidentally reinforce any bad behavior, like praise her just after she bit you when putting her in the cage, only when it's a smooth operation.

6) give her some exciting toys that she loved to play, put them inside the cage that she will not become bored when she in the cage,

7) put toys and play with them first so it makes him want them and then hang it in his cage play with it some more make it really fun like its SOO much more fun to play with the toy. See if he will go in and play with the toy.

8) don't bring him back out if he bites, praise & reward for going in

9) try not to make going back in the cage negative. If he bites and you go and throw him in the cage he will think everytime hes going back in the cage he has done something wrong. Which will reverse what your trying to achieve. you have to figure out what your bird loves and incorporate it into his cage to make it fun and rewarding. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

10) you know whenever i put something inside the cages like shredding paper, their sleeping box (which my lovebirds really reaally love to sleep inside)

or whatever they come to their cage and go inside without any problem

11) make her like the cage is her room and a jail

12) birds have routines they do all birds from wake up to times they eat and nap and prepare for the night, so you can try a earlier time for going to his cage

13) Try and keep your bird in the main room of the house when he is in a cage, never put him in a bedroom or side room where you aren't going to be the most.

14) Be patient with your lovebird. It may need time to get used to new things and new people. Observe your lovebird. You will then become accustomed to their behavior patterns and see their personality develop. Lovebird can become lovable, tame and trusting companions with their owner.

15)) leave the tv on for him and make sure the room he is in is bright enough so that he doesn't get depressed sitting in the dark all day. (Also put her cage near the sunlight when in the morning so she can enjoy)

16) It's best to keep your parrot where the center of activity is, usually the family room.

17) he more you interact with it in a positive manner, the more trust the bird will show in you. The most important thing to do is be patient and don't hit the bird if it bites. Just like all young creatures they bite a lot at a certain age.

last the main important thing is make a daily schedules

like mine lovebirds come out of cage from 12 to 8 clock bcoz i have no other pets and i am free all the time

but remember seperate the time of your bird and dog, so you can relax your mind ...
