All of my budgies have acted like this in the past at night, just sitting on the perch, that's all.
I'm not sure if she's upset or tired.
Do budgies think alot? I want to find out what they think, it would be quite interesting to know what they're thinking.
Recently, her daughter died because of my sisters cat, my sister was visiting with her cat and when I came back from school the cat scratched the bird and it hurt her so much that the vet put her to sleep. I am very upset by that but does my budgie realise? She's actaully happier in the day now, her and her daughter used to fight alot. I really would like to hear some of your sad stories, it would probably make me feel better knowing that other sad budgie stories are worse than mine.I 'm thinking of buying a new budgie? What do you think?
My budgie is breathing abit faster when I walk up to the cage, I think they get scared when you do that. Her chest is sticking out like she's proud? Why? She's abit plump but I'm watching her diet.

They do their best to raise their chicks but if some die, well, it happens. That's why they raise so many chicks in a clutch, the more chicks, the more chance at least one will survive in the wild. Once the chicks are adults, the parents job is over and the chicks are now younger, healthier competition in the game of life. Birds rarely hold emotional bonds to their offspring once they have fledged . I don't think your budgie would be phased by the loss of her daughter, she probably now thinks that she has less competition for the alpha males.
If she looks like her chest is sticking out and her breathing is quick, it could be that she is used to feeding her chicks, and so has a bit of a build up of 'crop food' that she would usually feed the chicks and it's taking room away from her lungs. That or she has indegestion and can't burp the gas up. She could also have an infection. If she isn't better in the next day or if she seems to be getting worse, get her to an avian vet ASAP.
with my experience fast breathing is caused by the bird being upset kinda like a hiss. was she there when the cat got her daughter did she see? if so she might have night terrors and is afraid to move at night. I have an evil cat named Doom. when i was away she broke in to my Linnies cage and killed her (the Linnie was injured when she was young so could not walk or perch) i found feathers on the floor: (I recently got 3 new birds one parrotlet very active. Doom knocked the cage over in the night and grabbed the bird (he is fine not) all his tail feathers are missing but he is active with no problems. but he is not timid at night and is afraid to go into his cage so I had to buy a new one. birds remember very traumatic events, so my guess is that ur budgie is just a little skittish at night and probably from ur movements to the cage she may thing u are a cat. the chest stricken out may also be territorial.
