A bird can certainly get sick and possible die from eating candy, especially the chocolate-based candy you describe. Chocolate is poisonous to birds because it contains a toxin called theobromine. This toxin is also poisonous to dogs and cats as well, but because of birds' small size and rapid metabolic rate, they are especially susceptible to its harmful effects. Generally, the sweeter the chocolate the less theobromine is present because there is a larger percentage of sugar added to the chocolate. (Milk chocolate has 1-2 mg of theobromine per gram whereas dark unsweetened chocolate has as much as 15 -16 mg of theobromine per gram). Regardless of this, no kind of chocolate should ever be given to birds. Birds may respond to the toxicity of chocolate with a variety of behaviors and ailments, including: hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, dark-colored feces, and death.

can't do anything except never let that get within reach of birds again.
Do a necropsy and look inside the bird. Chocolate is toxic to animals but this small amount would not likely kill it on the spot.
Keep the brother away from your animals.
Candy can be very bad for a bird, especially chocolate.
Sorry for your loss. If you have more birds, make sure your brother knows not to feed them anything except their food.
Probably so. Many things that are fine for humans are toxic for animals. Pigeons being so small, it wouldn 't take much.
Quite likely.
Birds are not designed to be able to digest processed human foods.
A small amount is all it would take to kill a bird.
