i want two different kinds of chickens (Dominique, and rhoad island red) would they get along if a got 2 of each and they would be backyard chickens
Yes they would I actually had both at the same time also. they got along just fine, but you might want to get some nesting boxes both are heavy egg producers.
Chickens are very social animals, the more the better as far as chickens are concerned. You can keep as many hens together as you want, hens love the company of other hens. Make sure your shelters will provide enough room for the number of hens you have. You can generally intermingle breeds of chickens. However, you shouldn't usually keep large chickens with really small chickens for sometimes the larger breed will pick on the smaller ones.
Good luck!!
Well I think they might if their bonded and like each like a male and a female of dominique and a male and a female of rhoad island red. My brother has a funny pair of chickens they love their grass and LOVE their food. He got a different breed only one a female and the pair picked on the chicken and she the new one died in less than a week so be careful but if they both stick up for each other they be fine i think but my brothers hen was on her own and she was so unactive probably just her breed.
Yes, they would get along as long as you introduce them to each other all at the same time.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com Chickens are like all other birds, you put into a new place all at the same time, and they all get along normally. Put them at different intervals, that's when the problems (fighting) start.

I think your chickens would get along fine! It's like having different breed of dogs together. A german shepherd and rottweiler get along fine living together, so wouldn't a dominique and rhoad island red chicken get along too?
You can keep any species you like together, hens are hens they will get along just fine.
sorry to answer your question with a question but why do you want backyard chickens?
