We have one cockateil and we don't know what gender it is. It is probably getting pretty old. It has a very large cage-there is definitely enough room for another bird. We are gone for large portions of the day and we think he might be getting a bit lonely. Do you think it's ok to get him a companion, or would they be too aggressive?
I used to raise cockateils, They are very social pets, however, if you had a singular one for quite some time. I would not put them in the same cage together. You could of course, get a young one and put it in a different cage, close to the older one. If the older one is tame, you could try some supervised visitations, but you would have to insure separating them. (I usually work in a bathroom, with the toilet top closed!) when introducing animals.
It truly is a hit or miss deal, some animals don't care and others can be very aggressive. If you have a really big cage, you may even be able to fit one inside the other, just to see how they act.
put a divider in the cage or they might fight!
