Can I give my cockatiels wild bird seed?
we got a mini blizzard 2 days ago and the roads are still iced over. we are snowed into our house. :(

I can't drive to town. my cockatiels are completely out of cockatiel food but I do have some wild birdseed that my grandpa bought last week.

do you think they could eat that, or is there something I can give them for today and possibly tomorrow til I can get to town to buy them cockatiel food??
answer:
Don't stress. your birds will be fine on wild bird seed till more is availible. Like everybody has said, feed them some greens because that won't hurt them and it's good for them. They should be quite happy with the wild bird seed till then.

instead of a wild bird food, make him like a fruit and veg salad. Birds love cucumbers and its very healthy for their feathers, you could also give him apples, and grapes because they have a vitamin C that is very useful to birds healthy growth.

he will love that salad.

Only for a very short time. It is unhealthy for them. Try giving them so brown rice or whole wheat crackers along with a fruit and vegetable salad. That's what I usually do when I run out of bird food.
In a pinch that will do.Also now is the time to try any fresh fruit and vegetable you have. Boil up some brown rice and scrambled eggs.
