What could be wrong with my bird?
I have a female Eclectus parrot named Lucy. She is about six years old, I'm guessing. Lucy has always been notoriously moody and slightly mean (especially around men) but if I feed her and go about her gently she doesn't mind me. However, recently Lucy pinched my had rather hard and at first I wasn't worried because 1. Its Lucy, 2. she gets that way when she's about to lay an egg. So about a week passed and her hostility grew. I believe she layed an in egg her box that my dad built for her. She spends a lot of time in it. Another strange thing happened yesterday, Lucy got stuck. Her talons (or nails I suppose) got wrapped around her cage and she was in the same position for a couple of hours. I asked my mom to clipped her nails, I am not sure how she did but Lucy was bleeding from the feet. She was on top of her cage til very late when my dad came home and she cuddled him and was put back in her box. I don't know if this is reason for concern or if I am just being over protective of a bird a care for but here are some more details to help find out more. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
She has had diarrhea for about a week.
Sometimes my four year old sister feeds her, not always healthy things.
Lucy will pluck her feathers, this may be to fill her box.
I've cared for lots of budgies and cockatiels.. and few of them have had similar problems. Sounds like she's stressed :\ BE CAREFUL when it comes to feeding your bird certain things.. make sure she never consumes milk. that's the most important one. Also, unless you're mom is a professional, get her wings and nails clipped by a professional. It's not supposed to bleed once you clip them.
Perhaps she has Psittacosis. Its unlikely, but the symptoms sound similar. The safest bet would be taking her to a vet.

My Conure had it.
Lucy does sound like a 'typical' female eclectus.

I have to question why you would think about having a box for her, unless she is a breeder & you do have a male for her? If she is single having the box is encouraging her to nest, lay eggs, encouraging hormonal behaviour & that you want to avoid at all costs! It will turn her very nasty. If she is single remove the box. It is the time of year she will be feeling hormonal & getting nasty. Having a box is only encouraging it further. It is also unfair to her because she feels the need to breed & nest, but she doesn't have a partner. This can frustrate her which is understandable. They have a strong instinct to breed this time of year anyway & don't need us to encourage it further if we don't intend on having her breed. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

plucking her feathers is not likely to be to fill her box. It is most likely through sexual frustration & needing to breed & not being able to. You should remove her box immediately or give her a mate & an aviary so she is able to breed & be happy.

Please do not allow your mum to clip her nails again. If they are too long you can file them. It's safer. Please don't allow your sister to feed her junk either. This can contribute to bad behaviours. And if you're concerned about her health the best thing you can do is take her to an avian vet where they can examine her properly & give her the correct treatment if needed.

MAKE SURE your bird is NOT being fed AVOCADO's for any reason. They are toxic to birds and will die if they have even a little bit. Birds are so small that bleeding is a big deal, a dog or cat can get its nails clipped and bleed when they cut the quick (or vein in the nail) but they are larger in size and usually the person doing the clipping knows to use these sticks that stop the bleeding. Birds can easily bleed out, I may be like the other people said that she is sexually frustrated but don't quote me on that. Seriously 4 year olds should be supervised around larger birds. Take your bird to a bird farm type of place to someone who is knowledgeable and is around different birds everyday and all day, they can have you go in the right direction about what to do. And I agree your mom shouldn't be doing the clipping of nails or feathers if she hasn't been taught to do so.
if she is acting strange and has diarrhea, you should take her to the vets :) it doesnt sound like she is acting weird from what you are saying, but obviously i cant see her so it is up to you to judge. even if she isnt sick, a checkup may be a good idea. runny poop can also be from getting fed a lot of watery fruit and veg, not necessarily a concern, but if she hasnt been eating this sort of thing then be on the lookout for other symptoms. feather plucking is usually a sign of severe stress and boredom. consider getting her a friend, provide more toys and foraging opportunities, interact with her more and allow for more out of cage time.
