Should I find a new home for my duck?
I have a male and a female muscovy duck. The female is timid but not too afraid of me. The male however hates me with a passion and runs when I am near and just does not seem to want me come near him or anything. He wont eat out of my hand or handle him gently like the female. I am thinking about finding him a new home, one where he can live with a whole bunch of other ducks and he won't have to interact with his owner too much but can instead interact with many other ducks. However, do you think my female duck will get too lonely and die? What are your thoughts? Any experienced duck or poultry owners would be great people to help me..
I think that it would be great for the male duck to be with other ducks but if you do send him off then you would have to give the female duck a lot of attention. Good luck :)
You could always trade in ducks for a better one that doesn't run away from you
Yes, you should let him go because maybe that's a sign that it's not where he belongs. Well, I owned chickens last year but I let them all go to this nice barn because they weren't happy being with me. If I were you, I'd let the female go too. I know it's sad but that seems like the right thing to do.
you could try to tame him :) just go in the pen and walk around show him your not gong to hurt him dont follow him or run around just slowly walk around soon you will be able to walk right past him without him moving away. then when you go to feed them or give them treats throw them on the ground, crouch down so you dont seem as harmful and just sit there really still. the first few times he might not come over but after a few trys he will. continue this for awhile then once he seems to come over as soon as you throw down the food slowly move your hand toward him to pat him if he runs away dont follow. then continue feeding them and try again. soon he will trust you. it worked for my chooks but it may take months but it worth it :) dont get too disappointed if he doesn't tame. some ducks arnt the cuddly type. if you do end up giving him away make sure he is going to another place with lots of ducks and not to a slaughter house :(
