Is it ok? (Parakeet Question)..............?
Is it ok to let my parakeet's keep her eggs on the bottom of the cage? I have tried different nesting boxes for her to try, but she keeps raking everything out and moving the eggs around...(I'm pretty sure they're fertilized)..so now she's got them in a corner on the bottom of the cage and sitting on them. I put a cloth there to give her some comfort..but yeah, she's not using it :/ I keep the cage EXTREMELY clean..I just wanted to know if it was ok to let her stay there and if it was ok for the eggs.
If she's just determined, I suppose it's ok to let her do her thing. She just needs to be able to roll them. That's part of it. They must be turned every so often just like they must be kept warm.
Now she has them in the corner of the cage ?? How did they get there from the nestbox ? If she threw them out of a nestbox they will be addled and wont hatch. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com
I suggest if she likes the bottom of the cage you put the nestbox there OPEN and the bedding and eggs inside so she can come and go and still feel safe.
