How to get my chicken ready for a poultry show?
What all do I need to do? Also how do you get your chicken fat? I know thats a weird question but my chickens never seem to gain a ton of weight. Some of them do and some don't. Any special feed?
answer: Are you doing it for 4-H? Before the show wash them. They can get chilled, so do it when it's warm.
Make sure they don't have parasites, that is a disqualification. Make sure you know what breed your chicken is, what the characteristics of that breed are, and make sure the chicken doesn't have any traits that are considered "defects" for that breed.
You fatten a chicken by feeding them. Always keep food in front of them. Especially if you are raising a "meat" chicken. Some breeds of chicken don't get very fat. And Bantams, which are miniature versions of chickens, are very small.

There really isn't any special feed, but "grower" food and "layer" food will make a chicken grow faster, and fatter than all purpose food. Layer food won't hurt roosters.
There are protein supplements and steroids, but they are serious disqualifications.
Just like an athlete on steroids.
