How do I train my budgie to fly to me from across the room?
I found a boy budgie about four weeks ago. He is 6-8 months old and he now sits on my shoulder but I want him to fly across the room to me when i call.
Also I want to know if I need to get another budgie because my budgie spends a lot of time in his cage-but its a big cage. My budgie get really loud when he wants attention.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your budgie is getting loud and wants your attention then in his cage he needs much more to occupy his time , , toys for feet , toys for beak , toys to shread , toys to climb in , on , and through , toys that move and toys that make sound , Then have more to change up whats in his cage from time to time .
If you get a cage mate he will likely not bond to you . If you want to train to fly to you that would not be good

I dont think you should rule out getting him a friend. In the wild, a budgie is NEVER alone, they live in flocks of millions! However, this may affect the training. If you get him a friend, try getting a hand-tame friend who is already used to people. If you dont get him a friend, you need to start spending a lot of time with him (if you dont already), it is unfair to leave him for extended periods of time on his own. I would reccomend training him first, then introducing a friend to him when you are happy with his level of tameness. A friend wont make him 'wild' although, especially if the new bird is timid, he will start to want to spend more time with the other bird and not with you. As i said, a hand tame friend could be a good step.
pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com I will say, though, if you do decide to get a friend, make sure you QUARRANTINE the new bird. A bird may seem healthy, but develop signs of illness soon after you buy them. They can have a range of illnesses, from viruses, bacterial infections to mites. And these can be passed on to your original bird. You would need to keep the birds in seperate rooms for at least a month, before introducing them.
As for flight recall tips. Try restricting his seed (NOT starving), and when you say his name, open the door and offer your hand. When he comes to your hand for seed, praise him and give him the seed. Only give him the seed when he flys from the cage to you. If he does not eat when he comes out the cage, give him back the seed in his cage when he goes back in.
So try calling him, and showing him the seed in your hand. He will step on for seed. Gradually, over a period of time, increase the distance between the cage and yourself when you call his name (or whatever you want the cue to be - 'come' or 'fly' or whatever) and only give him the seed when he reacts to you calling.
