How can I tell if my parakeet is sick?
please help me, ive had my parakeet for about 10 years and for the first time i think it is sick and might not make it. It has been puffed up and in the sleeping position for about the past 4 days. Ive tried giving it anti-biotic but it is not helping much. It still has an appetite but i feel it is sick. Also it is winter time where i live if that info helps. Also it barely has power to jump and barely every chirps like it used to. Please help me...
Get that Parakeet to a vet, if it seems to be acting weird odds are it is. I had a dog that did the same thing, turned out he ate my albuteraol inhaler, saved him JUST in time. But I doubt thats your problem, still similar problems should lead to similar outcomes.

it seems like many people have their parakeets/budgies for 5-7 years, maybe 10 if they are lucky. But it seems like they can live up to 15 years if they are healthy, eat a good diet (like harrison'spellets and some seeds & veggies/fruits), and live in an environment free of scented sprays, candles, and other irritants to the lungs

Take the parakeet to a vet. Birds are prey animals so they try to hide illness and injuries as long as possible so they dont get singled out by a predator. If the bird is showing any signs of sickness, he is problably very sick.
