Well his name is Tommy, and he is an blue adult budgie (I'm pretty sure that he's an adult) and i have had him for well over a month now, and he will eat off my hand, and let me pat his tummy , wings, and back (he always did) But he just wont go on my finger ???!!!!! I have tried at lest 2 times each day for the past month (i gave him 4 days to settle in) and he just wont go on it?! if I try a lot, then he will bite me, so i decided to take him out of the cage. We got him out (gently, of course) and he started biting my mums fingers. So we let him out of our grip, and he flew into the wall and kept banging into things.
I really think its a good idea to get his wings clipped but my mum and sister wont let me (they do it free at our pet shop) they said that they might in a month or so.
So, how do i tame him, and should i get his wings clipped? Thanks.
Well birds should always have there Wings clipped for the birds safety. And you need to work with him at least 2 hours a day and try using your finger to pet him let him get used to your finger being around him and when you are using you finger go towards him very slow if you move to fast around birds it scares them they think (oh man this persons trying to eat me) they don `t think the same as us if your fast they think your attacking them if its really quiet at bed time/when its dark it means they` re something wrong like they are being stocked you get what Im saying? Hope this helps
well to train your budgie to become tame, you first need let the budgie never to bite your hands. And about wing-clipping, your budgie won't realize if they were wing clipped until they actually try to fly and it would make them tame if you wing clip them. btw I won't be good idea to train adult parakeets because they are hard to train (i would suggest juvenile budgies)
