i am added to ladies to my flock there 'buff rocks' what are they like. size etc
if anyone owns then .. are they a good choice
Buff Rocks, are Plymouth Rocks. Buff, is just a color option of the breed, but all birds no matter the color should be similar.
Size: 7-8 lb (not all strains of rocks will get this large, I have utility barred rocks from a hatchery and they were probably about 5-6 lb)
Eggs: Expect about 3-4 eggs per week, during the first two years of life. Eggs should be large, and brown.
Hardy: Plymouth Rocks are very hardy birds, and do well in the heat, and cold. Last year in the winter while we had two feet of snow on the ground, my barred rocks were still laying respectably.
Maturity: They mature decently fast for a dual-purpose breed. My hens started laying around 5-6 months.
Broody: They do occasionally brood, and make okay mothers. I had a few of them brood, wasn't to impressed with their mothering skills. The Partridge Plymouth Rock (another color) is supposed to be the better mother out of the Plymouth Rocks . I would imagine this would be so, because more energy has been put into making the White, and the Barred Rock, into production fowl, thus taking the broody trait out many of them. Less energy was put into the other color types, so maybe the Buff Rock, may be more prone to broodiness.

Temperment: they tend to be easy to deal with. I had. Buff Rock rooster, and he was a pretty mild guy, and got along with my other roosters. I gave him to my father's friend (he was going to eat him) whom loves him. He follows him around the yard, and while he is sitting on the porch at night the rooster chills there next to him. He said several people told him that they wanted the rooster thinking he would eat it, as he only raises gamefowl , but he is going to keep him as a pet.
Best wishes,

Edit for other poster:
Relax, sometimes I call my hens ladies. As well as feathered fiends, monsters, jerks, fine feathered friends, and sweetie pie. It just happens.
Like .... ready ?.... chickens!
Chickens aren't "ladies" ... they're HENS or roosters.
