how to stop my chickens picking each other and removing thei

Feather pecking is a result of lacking one or more of these things.

Space-If your birds are in an enclosed space, and there are to many of them in the area, they will take their stress out on one another. It will start with some fighting, and then they will taste the blood. After this they become dangerous and sometimes even deadly to one another. Sadly, I can't give you the amount of space needed per bird, each bird is different. I have found some breeds such as the egg laying hybrids to be prone to feather pecking.

Food-Birds will start to peck each other in the case that there is a lack of food. So make sure they have egg laying pellets (or mash if you prefer that) at all times. Also, give each bird a handful of scratch once a day.

Keeping them occupied-if you do not want them to eat each other give them something better to do. I am yet to have a case where free-ranging fowl couldn't fix the issue. If you can not let them free range give them leaves, or hay to root through. Hang some veggies on a strings. Anything to keep they busy. pets question and answers,www.5d2d.com

Hope it all works out,

You got fighter chickens .. you can't do that much about it, just put them in different cages! The feather will grow back again.
