What is the difference between a pigeon and a dove?

  Yep. Just wondering.
Doves are usually anywhere from 6 1/2 "(ground dove) to 12" (mourning, ringneck, whitewinged, white-fronted) in length, with delicate bones and beaks. Pigeons are at least 13 " ; in length, with heavy bodies and bills - if you saw the two side by side, you would see the distinct differences. The pigeons you see in cities and that people raise are actually hybrids of the rock dove and the gray pigeons with the black on their wings and white on their tails are what a purebred rock dove looks like.
